Grain farmers are stewards of more than 20 million hectares of Australia’s land, and consider the economic and environmental sustainability of their properties as paramount. Having good legislation framing conversations, requirements, actions, policies and incentives in relation to environmental protection are important to achieve real outcomes. However, there are deficiencies in the current EPBC Act which create uncertainty, confusion, and conflict for farmers, impacting on agricultural development. The need to improve the operation and effectiveness of this Act is evident.
