Growers in northern New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory interested in driving national grains industry policy are being encouraged to nominate for a position on the GrainGrowers National Policy Group (NPG).

The GrainGrowers NPG comprises a total of 15 growers - five from each of the three major grain growing regions in Australia - Western Region (South Australia and Western Australia), Southern Region (Southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania) and the Northern Region (northern New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory).

Applications for election to the Northern region are now open, seeking growers to fill five positions on the NPG.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said the NPG plays a critical role in representing the interests of grain growers, by providing direct input into the development of industry policy positions.

“What we are looking for are people keen to be part of a dynamic group, considering policy issues from a range of perspectives. The NPG is a great opportunity to participate in those discussions and have direct input into key issues impacting the wider industry.”

Ms Gawel explained candidates were required to be a GrainGrowers member in the business of grain production in the Northern Region (northern New South Wales, Queenslandand the Northern Territory).

“The NPG is a great opportunity for eligible members to play a more direct and active role in the industry.”

Ms Gawel said the current NPG highlighted the depth of talent, commitment and enthusiasm in the industry.

“I would encourage people interested in applying to join to visit the GrainGrowers website or talk to current and former NPG members and consider what they have to offer,” Ms Gawel said.

The NPG meets in person three to four times a year, with additional virtual meetings as required.

GrainGrowers cover transport and accommodation costs and provide a sitting fee.

A carer stipend to cover carer responsibilities is also available if required. Nominations are now open and will close on Monday 14 October 2024 at 12pm (AEDT).

Eligible members can apply directly via the GrainGrowers website or by downloading the nomination form and submitting their application via email at enquiry@graingrowers.com.au. If more than five applications are received, members in that region will vote to determine the successful candidates.
